Venue: Herbert Smith Freehills
Time: 7.00pm for 7.30pm
Guest Speaker: Sir Bernard Eder
We are honoured that Sir Bernard Eder has agreed to speak at our AGM dinner. Sir Bernard Eder practised as a barrister for almost 35 years – between 1976 and 2010 – specialising in commercial litigation and international arbitration. In 1991, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel and in 2011 he became a High Court judge, sitting mainly in the Commercial Court where he presided over high-profile cases such as the Tchenguiz brothers’ dispute with the Serious Fraud Office. He took early retirement from the bench on 1 April 2015. On 7 May 2015, he was appointed an international judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court and in June 2016 he was appointed an acting judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, sitting in the Commercial Court in the BVI. He has also rejoined Essex Court Chambers as an arbitrator/mediator and expert on English law. Renowned for his wit and frankness, and particularly with the benefit of the Chatham House Rule, he will no doubt provide us with a very entertaining and insightful speech.
We hope that he will agree to take some questions from the floor.
Past speakers at this event include Mr Justice Birss, Lord Justice Briggs, Lord Falconer, Lord Sumption and Senior Costs Judge Hurst. The occasion is regarded as an opportunity for our speakers to talk more frankly and openly than is customary as the speech is under the Chatham House rule.
Tickets are limited to 4 per firm.
