Press
Hugh
will discuss the latest privacy cases, from royalty
and folk singers to footballers and sado-masochists,
and considers possible lines of future development
and the likely impact on the press.
Tuesday 4 November 2008 - Duncan Matthews QC (20
Essex Street)
To
challenge or not to challenge - is your decision
maker apparently biased or not?
Duncan
will look at current trends in decisions challenging
judges and arbitrators for actual or apparent
bias and will offer some thoughts on whether and
when it is worth a challenge, keeping the balance
between the charter to disrupt proceedings and
ensuring fairness as well as considering the implications
of the overseas perspective.

and finding the solutions
Mark
will look at the key issues which have arisen,
their causes and effects and how to find the solutions
in this difficult period.

Interpretation
of Contracts and the admissibility of evidence
of subjective intention
Laurie
will be looking at the interpretation of contracts
and in particular the extent to which extraneous
evidence, including the pre-contractual negotiations,
